BANDUNG, April 7, 2026 – Representatives from the Indonesian ESP Teachers Community (IETC) and the Regional English Language Office (RELO) Jakarta convened at the Sheraton Hotel and Tower Dago to discuss a burgeoning strategic partnership. The meeting focused on exploring global collaboration opportunities, including professional training and information exchange initiatives aimed at enhancing English for Specific Purposes (ESP) education across the archipelago.

The Regional English Language Office (RELO) Jakarta, part of the U.S. Embassy, supports the improvement of English teaching and learning in Indonesia through professional development, resources, and exchange programs. Similarly, the Indonesian ESP Teachers Community (IETC) is dedicated to advancing English language proficiency and professional communication through specialized training programs and expert-led sharing sessions.

The meeting was attended by RELO’s Director Kevin McCaughey and Manager Dian Safitri and representatives of IETC who discussed a shared vision for integrating IETC’s expertise into upcoming regional educational frameworks.

Interestingly, Pak Kevin began his own distinguished career as an ESP teacher in the field of Pharmacy, expressed high regard for IETC’s contributions to the local educational landscape. “We have closely observed IETC’s trajectory and its impact to the community impressive and English language as well as its track record in strengthening the teaching community,” said Pak Kevin.

During the discussion, he emphasized that specialized instruction is now a cornerstone of their upcoming strategy.
“RELO is now placing a specific focus on ESP teachers, and this has officially been integrated into our priority programs,” he added.

Ibu Dian further highlighted that there are numerous collaborative avenues currently being explored that will benefit educators through expert-led sessions and enhanced access to pedagogical resources. “This partnership underscores a mutual commitment to providing accessible, high-quality language training and fostering continuous professional development within the Indonesian academic community.”

She emphasized that by leveraging the strengths of both organizations, this collaboration aims to ensure that English language education in Indonesia remains adaptive to global professional standards and industry-specific needs.
